GROWING out of the Women's Group of their local church, the Book Divas got together in 2011, and they've been reading ever since.

How many members do you have now?
We have between 10 and 12 members.

Any all-time favorites?
We found The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society interesting because it was about a part of WWII history that we were not aware of. We also enjoyed How Far to Bethlehem, which is a lovely story about Mary and Joseph and the challenges they faced before Jesus was born.

Any disappointments?
We were disappointed in 30 Pieces of Silver—it was poorly written, and the Amazon hype overrated it as a Da-Vinci-Code-type of book. The other disappointment was Gone Girl—it was just creepy. (Ditto that bit. See our LitBlog post on creepy marital thrillers. —Ed.)

How about good discussions?
The Happiness Project had us all talking about how to organize our lives. We discussed the book for two months and were awed by how methodical the author was about finding happiness.

Tell us a little about your meetings and how you choose your books.
We hold our meetings on the first Thursday of the month at our church, Holy Trinity Presbyterian. Our book selection process is informal. We check the best seller lists for recommendations, or someone simply recommends a book. After talking a bit, we decide which books we want to read—we try to choose books for three months at a time.

Is there anything else you can tell us about your club?
Just that we're retired women. And although we have others in our church who love to read, they're unable to attend.
