Born in Delaware, Henriquez spent her childhood summers in Panama with her father's extended family. Her intimate knowledge of that country, with its unique relationship to the U.S., informs most of her work.

She has lived in at least seven states and is now based in Chicago, where she lives with her husband and young daughter. (From the Oxford American, June 8 2009.)

Henriquez is the author of the story collection Come Together, Fall Apart (2006), which was New York Times Editors' Choice selection, as well as the novels <em >The World in Half (2009) and <em >The Unknown Americans (2014). Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Atlantic, Glimmer Train, Virginia Quarterly Review, Ploughshares, TriQuarterly, AGNI, and The Oxford American, and in various anthologies.
